About my practice
1977 Dublin

I am a Speech and Language Therapist, with broad experience in working with varied client groups. While based in Dungarvan, Co Waterford, I can cover a wide geographical area, including South Tipperary and East Cork. School and Home visits are also facilitated. Training and informal discussions with school staff are seen as a priority. I can be flexible in offering family friendly therapy sessions at a time to suit.
I love working with children of all ages, and believe that therapy should be fun. During assessment, I like to look at a child's strengths as well as their deficits, and plan intervention accordingly, ensuring that a child gets the opportunity for positive communication and experience of success. It is also essential that family members are involved. Parents, grandparents, carers and siblings are often incorporated into interactive games and activities during sessions.
Students in secondary school can find the language related to the school curriculum very challenging if they have language deficits. I work closely with teachers, psychologists and other relevant professionals to help these students identify particular areas of difficulty, to develop strategies for effective communication, assist in study skills and also to make recommendations around resources, subject exemptions and/or exam supports as appropriate.
I also work with adults preparing for interviews or other important speaking situations eg workplace presentations. We cover areas of effective communication and preparation for speaking in public with confidence and clarity.
Working with adults with a disability is a particular area of interest for me. I take a person centred approach and view each person in the context of their everyday life, while involving family members, staff, and others in the community as appropriate. I work with adults to develop Communication Passports ensuring that their life story and interests are paramount, and that functional communication is facilitated.
Ongoing education and lifelong learning is very important to me and I engage in regular upskilling and ongoing peer review.
It is always good to have a preliminary chat in order to be satisfied that we can work together. Ring me any time and I can discuss needs and priorities.
