Gráinne de Paor is a Speech and Language Therapist and Educator with extensive experience in the areas of intellectual disability, speech and language disorders, developmental delays and disorders.
Grainne studied speech and language therapy at NUI Galway and later obtained a Masters with first class honours in Education. Her research focuses on the links between literacy development and speech and language skills. She has also studied the impact of speech and language difficulties on learners’ experience of curriculum and assessment.
Grainne is trained in the use of the LAMH signing system and total communication. She is also a Director at LAMH. In addition to ongoing specialised speech, language and communication courses, Grainne is also certified in the Derbyshire Language Scheme, Hanen Parent Training, Talk Tools, Reading and Language intervention (RLI) and Core Vocabulary.
Grainne is specialised in the provision of speech and language therapy to individuals with Down syndrome. Grainne spent a decade specialising in the area of Down syndrome; conducting research and working with organisations nationally and internationally to develop innovative approaches to speech, language and educational provisions for people with Down syndrome across the lifespan.Grainne co-founded the country’s speech and language special interest group on Down syndrome and published in the areas of literacy development and accessible information for people with speech, language and literacy difficulties.
Gráinne has worked in a variety of clinical, research, consultancy and management roles in national and international organisations.
Grainne is a member of the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists (IASLT), the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and the Independent Speech and Language Therapists of Ireland (ISTI) and she is registered with CORU to provide speech and language therapy services.
