Personal and professional reasons inspired me to set up Kidd Talk. I am a registered speech and language therapist with several years experience of working in the public sector. I am also a sibling of one of the first Irish citizens with Down Syndrome to go to mainstream primary and secondary school. With less than 2 years between us, our sibling relationship has taught me the most important things about communication.
What makes Kidd Talk different is the emphasis on parents and practical change. I work in partnership with parents. I have designed a range of tools and approaches that help to maintain the change between sessions. I coach parents in all therapy techniques using my training in Solution Focused Brief Therapy - that means parents are actively involved in the session and this has been a complete game-changer in terms of delivering faster and better results.
I really enjoy working with children and their supporters and helping to relieve some of the stress and confusion that parents often feel when their child is having a difficulty. At the moment my caseload is mainly based on: early language 0-3 , stammering, speech difficulties, intellectual disability, developmental language disorder, and autism. I'm always learning in this job as the therapies evolve and I meet more families.
I currently run two clinics for the south-east area.
Waterford Clinic: This clinic is based at the Rowe Creavin GP Practice in Waterford Health Park
Monday-Thursday 9:00-6:00
Wexford Clinic: This clinic is located in a self-contained cottage 10 minutes from Gorey town. This clinic operates on the first Friday and Saturday of the month from 8:30-6:00
It's important for me to link in with schools and preschools so that a child's communication support plan is consistent in all their major life areas. School and preschool visits are available on request.
